LEGAL SERVICES FOR THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
CONTRACT DRAFTING • CONTRACT REVIEW & NEGOTIATION • MUSIC BUSINESS STRATEGY & ADVICE
WHAT WE DO
The music industry is a complex business which can often seem confusing and daunting to artists and industry professionals alike. Contracts are deliberately worded in lengthy and archaic language which can be difficult to understand but can have serious long-term implications for the parties.
Our aim is to demystify the workings of the industry and provide clear, easy to understand advice and guidance.
We are based in Cape Town and act on behalf of a variety of songwriters, composers, singers, musicians, producers, bands, artist managers, record labels and publishers throughout South Africa.
We advise on and draft a variety of music industry contracts such as:
- Recording agreements
- Management agreements
- Publishing agreements
- Licensing agreements
- Synchronisation agreements
- Endorsement/sponsorship agreements
- Merchandising agreements
- Performance / booking agreements
- Producer agreements
- Distribution agreements
- Inter-band agreements
- 360 degree deals
WHO WE ARE
We are two Scotsmen with a passion for music and artists rights.
Darren Rose is a qualified entertainment lawyer with over 10 years experience working both in the UK and South Africa, while John Maclennan is an artist manager with over 25 years international experience.
Our combined skills and experience means the advice we provide is not only sound from a legal perspective but is also strategic and in line with international developments and standards.
OUR MISSION
Traditionally the balance of fairness in the music industry has been weighed heavily against artists. Our aim is to change the status quo and reset the balance.
By empowering artists with knowledge and providing affordable legal services we believe that we can effect a collaborative change which is not only fair for the parties involved but in line with international industry developments and standards.
By educating artists and ensuring that artists rights are respected and maximised we seek to contribute to the growth and evolution of the global music industry.
